Filming in Israel: Beaches
Israel has two coastlines; the west has the Mediterranean and the south has the Red Sea. Israel also has shorelines around two lakes that, confusingly, are named as seas; the Sea of Galilee and The Dead Sea.
When looking to film beaches in Israel, there is an incredible amount of choice on offer. This article will look at the characteristics of the beaches along each of these stretches of water;
The Mediterranean – Israel’s ‘Continental strip’ along the west coast,
The Red Sea – at the Southern most tip of Israel, in Eilat
The Sea of Galilee – in the lush North of Israel
The Dead Sea
Your productions in Israel will have its own individual focus; historical, travelogue, feature film, short segment, music clip etc. Incorporating beach scenes into your film will certainly add color and atmosphere to your production. Choosing the right beach, however, is vital and each location has its own special feel and geographical features.
Here at Biblical Productions, we share with you some of our local know-how, helping you to get a feel for the type of beach locations you may wish to include in your film.
1. Filming in Israel
Feature films, music clips and travelogues often try to capture shots of golden, sun drenched beaches and the glistening, azure sea. All four ‘seas’ are great for shooting beach life in Israel; showing both the tourist/locals ‘hot’ spots eisure pursuits of locals. Each beach has its own particular ambiance and this summary should help you to determine the best settings to suit your productions in Israel.
Tel Aviv: Gordon and Frishman Beaches plus others. These beaches have a lively atmosphere and are frequented by a mix of tourists and Israelis. They are surrounded by luxury hotels and snack bars, and are filled with tourists, soaking up the sun and frolicking in the sea. Israeli visitors to the beach tend to summon up the energy to play paddleball.
One other beach to point out is the ‘Separated Beach’ in Tel Aviv. As orthodox religious Jews are required to dress modestly in the company of the opposite sex, beach pursuits are somewhat hampered. This beach has allocated days for men and women, so that they can unwind in the company of friends and family and finally get some sun on their skin.
Over the summer you are likely to catch a beach party in Tel Aviv; when holiday makers and locals mingle together, enjoying the cool evening air and the even cooler beer. With the latest summer sounds blasting over the PR system and the beach alive with laughter and chatter, Tel Aviv’s beach parties make memorable, colorful shots. The atmosphere is very different at night and footage would illustrate the young, funky side to Tel Aviv, buzzing with vitality.
If a beach party is not quite the scene you are looking for, how about Drums Beach? Every Friday there are drumming sessions at sunset – a wonderful sound to match a stunning view.
Another great and particularly local activity, is the Israeli circle dancing which takes place on Saturday night, close by to the beach
Netanya has a very similar feel to Tel Aviv. The beach in Netanya is at the bottom of a hill which has been cultivated into attractive gardens, with a winding path that leads down to beach level. Generally, Netanya is less crowded than Tel Aviv but offers similar shots. It also has Israeli circle dancing in its main square, at the top end of the gardens.
Sea of Galilee – Ein Gev, Resort Village Beach. The Sea of Galilee (also known as The Kineret) is a freshwater lake that is warm, yet invigorating. Only guests of the resort are allowed access to this particular beach but it is cons

Filming in Israel – large cities in Israel
- Image via Wikipedia
Since 1985, Biblical Productions have been assisting Israeli and non-Israeli Film Production companies to achieve the best results from their film shooting. Whether you or your crew could use guidance in navigating customs at the airport, need to rent a vital piece of equipment or employ the services of a highly professional director, cameraman, or editor and state-of-the-art equipment, Biblical Productions will assist.
In the following article, we will bring an overview of some of Israel’s largest cities for your filming in Israel experience through Biblical production which provides production services in Israel.
Filming in Beer Sheva
Beer Sheva, the capital of the Negev region, is a location directly connected to the story of Abraham as well as numerous other Bible stories. Under a two hour drive from Jerusalem, Abraham lived in Beer Sheva for many years due to an abundance of underground springs in the area. Just outside the city you can find excavations of a biblical town at “Tel Beer Sheva.” At the “Tel,” which means a mound containing the remains of settlement upon settlement, you can film an ancient well outside the city gate. This may be the same well referred to in the Book of Genesis, dug both by Abraham and Isaac. Inhabited on and off for centuries, the “Tel” contains antiquities dating back to the time of the Patriarchs, to the time of David and Solomon, and to Roman and Byzantine times. Beer Sheva has been revived and it is a particularly good place to film recreations of biblical scenes.
Filming in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv – this urban beach town is without a doubt the modern hub of Israel. Situated along the Mediterranean coast, Tel Aviv, with its warm climate, is home to many sidewalk cafes and shops. The city is a wonderful place to film, for those interested in cosmopolitan Israeli life. The streets are filled with students, young professionals, and people from all walks of life, and lined with white Bauhaus style apartment blocks, cultural institutions, and small business districts. The city actually covers a fairly small area making it easy to walk from place to place but traffic is usually problematic in the heavily populated city. Like most modern cities, Tel Aviv, is home to disparate neighborhoods, each with its own character and charm. There are wealthy areas with exclusive shops and apartment buildings, there are trendy neighborhoods where students mingle at local bars and cafes, and there are also poorer neighborhoods that portray a different side of the city.
Hundreds of Israeli films have been shot and set in Tel Aviv, among them the recent Eytan Fox hit, The Bubble. In this film Fox presents his version of the young hip professional scene in Tel Aviv, centered around the happening thoroughfare Shenkin Street. Overall, shooting in Tel Aviv allows for expression of the contemporary Israeli way of life, characterized by standard urban practices mixed with a laissez-faire Mediterranean sensitivity.
Filming in Eilat
Eilat – the southern-most city in Israel functions as a port of entry for goods and as a vacationers’ oasis for Israelis and foreigners looking to sit back, soak in the rays, and relax. Located on the coast of the Red Sea, Eilat’s geographic qualities make it a stunning sight and a wonderful place to film. Eilat, surrounded by magnificent mountain ranges, has numerous grand hotels and attractions. There are beautiful coral reefs filled with colorful aquatic life in the Red Sea, drawing scuba divers to the city. Eilat is overall a water-oriented place that also has a Dolphin reef where visitors can swim with Dolphins. The weather in Eilat is hot and dry and it rains for around 3 days in the winter. It is preferable to avoid the intense heat in the summer, but otherwise Eilat is a good place to film, especially for productions involving underwater shots and marine life.
Filming in Haifa
The third largest city in the country is most noted for its active port and its rolling hills. Located between the ocean and the green Carmel Mountains, Haifa has wonderful views making it ideal for beauty shots. The religious make up of the city is somewhat unique: around 10% o

Why Take A Holiday In Dubai?
Where are you thinking of going on holiday to next year? Regardless of what time of year you go away, you’ll probably be thinking of Europe, perhaps America or maybe the Mediterranean. The chances are slim that the United Arab Emirates will be on your mind.
Perhaps that will be about to change, because that is where you will find Dubai. It is an emirate and is located in the northern half of the country, along the coast. It is this coastal position that is just one of the benefits of opting to take a holiday here. It is also why so many people come back.
The beaches in Dubai are second to none. The Jumeirah Beach Park is one of the best, particularly if you are visiting with the family. Located in Jumeirah, the park has much more than just a beach. You can also enjoy a barbecue cooked over one of the provided fire pits, and there are shaded green areas as well for when you need a change of scene.
This is also a popular area of Dubai because of the Wild Wadi Water Park close by. This is packed with sensational water rides and provides a wonderful day out for both adults and kids alike.
Apart from the beaches and the water park, the other main attraction which draws a lot of people to Dubai is the malls. Shopping is big business in Dubai, and you will find it very difficult to come home without filling an extra suitcase or two with your purchases!
You have two main choices – you can either head for the modern shopping malls, or you can go to the souks. The malls have the advantage of giving you the best in shops and restaurants, combined with cool air conditioning.
The real experience however is in the souks. These are markets and you will find lots of them, particularly in Deira. This is just north of the Dubai Creek. You’ll notice that each souk has a theme; so for example one may concentrate on food and spices, while another may focus primarily on textiles. Be sure to visit as many as you can – they are renowned for providing goods at fantastic bargain prices.
Dubai also has its fair share of attractions and historical places to visit too. But primarily the weather, the beaches and the shopping are the three reasons why so many people opt for Dubai holidays now.
Regardless of the reason why you would visit, be sure to take in as much of the location as you can. Haggle in the souks, laze on the beaches and swim in the sea. All three are essential staples of a wonderful break in Dubai.

6 Places for a Great Holiday in Turkey

Turkey is a great place to go in the summer. The holiday destinations have everything you need for a great vacation. The weather is almost always perfect with sun the whole day. The beaches are great and the parties are going on all night. Finally the Turkeys kitchen is very good.
If you are the relaxing type, you can spend the whole day at one of the many great beaches. Here you can play beach volleyball or try one of the many water activities like: parasailing, jet skiing or the banana boat.
You can also have an active holiday with trekking in the mountains. Ravine climbing and mountain climbing are also getting very popular. If you like the water more, you can try rafting or sea kayaking. Diving is also a possibility.
Alanya is without doubt the most popular holiday destination in Turkey, with 10 % of all Turkey tourists staying here. The city does also have nice beaches and some interesting sights. The most popular is the 250 meter (820 feet) castle hill, which divides the two beaches. From the top you can see Alanya and the surrounding country.
The Water Planet Aquapark is one of Turkeys largest water parks; and a great place for kids. Here they can try everything from water slides and rafting to bungee jumping and crazy golf. After some branded goods shopping (both real and fake) in Alanya, you can finish your day in the many discos and bars.
Antalya is not like the other holiday destinations, which has developed from a small fisher village to a holiday destination. With its 500,000 residents you will see more locals than tourists. So a visit to Antalya will give you a better look at the real Turkey.
Because of the size of Antalya you find a lot of shopping centers, shopping streets and bazaars. But the city does also have many interesting sight; especially from the Roman Empire. Most of them are in the old town Kaleici, where you also can see old women preparing the dinner while their men are playing dominoes.
Belek is the number one golf destination in Turkey. In the area around the city there are eight golf courses; and many more are being built. It has been so popular to play golf in Belek that it can be necessary to book months ahead in the high season.
Belek is also a great destination even though you not play golf. The nature is fantastic and silence is incredible compared to the lively destinations like Side and Alanya. If you love bird, Belek will also seem like a paradise to you. And you can still find both shopping and water parks.
Kemer might have the most beautiful location in Turkey. Surrounded by the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains is this special place. The city does have a unique mix of the real Turkey and a modern holiday village. The city has an elegant marina, beautiful beach promenades and lively pedestrian streets.
For some sightseeing you can visit the ruins of Phaselis; the winter location for Alexander the Great. Another great place (especially for the kids) is the 55,000 m2 Moonlight Park in the middle of Kemer. Here you find a playground, restaurants, bars, discos; and even a dolphinarium
Like many other holiday destinations Kusadasi was originally a small fisher village. Today you find great Turkey food and a quieter nightlife with only a small bar street.
There is an international feeling in the city because of the many cruise ships; most of them come to see the famous sight Efesos (also called Efesus) near Kusadasi. So if you like smart cafes and international clothing brands, Kusadasi is the city for you.
If you are looking for a romantic holiday destination, Side might be the answer. In the old town you can see many Roman building. Do also walk a little away from the main street and take stroll among the well-preserved wood and stone houses in the quieter streets. Finish the day in the city theater, where concerts and theater has replaced the gladiator fights.
Side does also have a wild nightlife. You can even combine culture with pleasure in one of the most popular bars in the city; placed among the ruins of two 2nd century temples. For sun bathing Side has two beaches; the quit east beach and the livelier (and kid friendly) west beach.

Turkey – The place to visit
The Republic of Turkey is located in West Asia on the Mediterranean and shares its borders with Greece, Bulgaria, Syria and Iraq among other countries. The northern side of this country borders the Black Sea and covers a land mass of over 700000 kilometers. The population in this country is well over 70 million people.
Because of its topography, Turkey has diversity in its climate. The coastal areas enjoy climate which is typical of the Mediterranean, as does the region around Istanbul, the capital, which also gets rain from time to time. The Black Sea area has subtropical oceanic climate in the east which tends to get colder as you head west. The interior regions have hot summers and cold winters whereas the coastal areas while having a mostly temperate climate, also possesses a higher level of humidity than the rest of the country. The areas in the south eastern part of the country which borders Syria and Iraq tend to have a desert like climate where there is some snow during winter but no rain in the summers.
Besides the current capital of Ankara, there is also the former capital city of Istanbul which are must visit places in Turkey. Let’s look a little more closely at these two cities:-
Istanbul – The largest city of Turkey is also its financial and cultural center. The location of Istanbul is slightly unusual in that the city straddles both sides of the Bosphorus, the strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. In that sense, Istanbul and by extension Turkey, are connected to Asia as well as Europe. An area most tourist visit is the old city of Sultanahmet. This was the center of the then Constantinople which was home to the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.
Some of the most famous tourist spots in this area include the Sultanahmet Mosque or the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace. Besides these, there are several churches and museums too that one can visit. One of popular hotels used by tourist in this area is the Hotel Armagrandi Spina. Another mid range option is the Armada Hotel. Both hotels have wonderful views of the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia from the rooftop and a few rooms as well.
Ankara – Ankara is the second largest city of Turkey after Istanbul. Unlike Istanbul which is on the western part of the country, Ankara is located centrally. The main must visit site for tourists here is the Anitkabir. This mausoleum located on a hill in the Anitteppe quarter is the final resting place of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founding father of the Republic of Turkey. There is also a museum located close by which contain many Ataturk artifacts. Ankara is also home to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. This is widely regarded as the best museum in all of Turkey and is a stop for most visitors.
One might also consider visiting Gallipoli located near Istanbul which is the site of several World War I battlefields and subsequent memorials.

Cheap hotels near the temple of Luxor and the Nile

- Image via Wikipedia
Luxor is a perfect vacation destination during the Christmas season. At this time, you get to take part in the season activities aside from touring the many historic sites Luxor can offer. To enjoy the best of this city, book into one of the luxurious or cheap Luxor hotels near the Nile River and the Luxor Temple.
Luxor is deemed as Egypt’s most exciting destination. In this city, you’ll discover the best preserved and biggest temples of Ancient Egyptian times – the city of Thebes. In fact, it is also regarded as the greatest open air museum in the world. At current, the ruins of the temples of Luxor and Karnak all stand in the heart of this modern city. For this reason, many tourists travel to Luxor to “step back in time” and experience the time of the Valley of the Queens and the Valley of the Kings. However, to fully enjoy and tour these monuments, temples, tombs and other ruins, it is best to book for extended stay yet cheap Luxor hotels. This is since most of these temples are so big; it will take you days to see the entire area. A good example is the Karnak Temple and its numerous statues.
Regarded as the tourist Mecca, Luxor acts as the keeper of relics from the Ancient Thebes’ time in Egypt. Since Tourism is the major contributor to their economy, you’ll find this city line with shops and people offering all kinds of services. The moment you step out of one of the luxurious or cheap Luxor hotels, you’ll find an assortment of locals asking you to buy their stuff or to be your tour guide. The best way to overcome this is to inquire with the hotel staff beforehand for reliable tour guides in the area. This place usually gets crowded throughout the months of October to February. As compared to other vacation spots that get fully booked in the summer, in Luxor, tourism is down at this time.
Cheap Luxor Hotels
Most of the luxurious, mid-range and cheap hotels in Luxor are located along the east bank of the city. On the west bank, there are villages near tombs and monuments. These accommodations offer cheap rentals, especially for long term stay.
Tutotel Hotel – This cheap Luxor hotel is located behind Old Winter Palace’s tropical gardens. It is also near the Nile and the Luxor Temple. It has a roof terrace with a pool area; 2 restaurants with one specializing Italian cuisine; a bar; and a coffee shop. There is also a discotheque by the cellar. In fact, it is noted as one of the town’s most popular dancing venues. All the 79 guestrooms of Tutotel Hotel offer spectacular Nile views. Nile Cruise Holidays in Egypt
A cruise down the world’s longest river is the perfect way to spend your holidays in Egypt. There are many Nile cruise holidays to choose from, however travelling from Aswan down to Luxor on the Oberoi Zahra Cruise is a luxurious choice and a fantastic way to visit some of Egypt’s most famous temples and tombs.
Aswan
When you select the Oberoi Zhara Nile Cruise, your holiday in Egypt begins in Aswan, where the Old Cataract Hotel is based. This hotel was famously the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s ‘Death on the Nile’ and, as a consequence, the hotel in Egypt has attracted everyone from Princess Diana to Margaret Thatcher. Enjoying afternoon tea on the famous hotel balcony, whilst overlooking the Nile, is an experience to remember on your holiday in Egypt. However, you should be warned that there is an entrance fee for the famous Grand Terrace.
Whilst the cruise docks in Aswan you can also visit the famous Temple of Philae. During the evening you can attend a spectacular sound and light show on the temple grounds. Philae Temple is dedicated to Osiris and is even considered to be one of the burial places of the ancient winged god.

Abu Simbel
No holiday in Egypt is complete without a trip to Abu Simbel. Visiting this breathtaking site is possible during a Nile cruise holiday. Abu Simbel consists of two massive rock temples situated on the banks of Lake Nasser. The temples were carved during the reign of Rameses II and depict him and Queen Nefertari to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. If you can arrange your holiday in Egypt during the month of October then you should definitely attempt to visit the festival on the 22nd. On this date at sunrise, shafts of light illuminate the statues of Ramses, Ra and Amun, leaving Ptah, the god of darkness, firmly in the shadows. Ramses arranged this bout of architectural egotism to commemorate his birthday and coronation, the temple also lights up in February. However due to the fact that the temple was moved during the 1960s, the festival now takes place a day later than Ramses had originally intended.
Luxor
Luxor is the final port of call for your Nile cruise holiday in Egypt and it is from here that you can arrange an excursion to the nearby Valley of the Kings. Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs were buried in this valley for nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th centuries BC. The valley is known to contain over 63 tombs and the most famous of these is that of Tutankhamen. The tombs at the Valley of the Kings differ in size from a simple pit to a more complex tomb with over 120 differing chambers. Whilst on your holidays in Egypt you can also visit the Temple of Luxor which has a dromos of Sphinx connecting it to the nearby Karnak Temple. Between Karnak and Luxor Temples is the famous Mummification Museum which features everything you could possibly want to know about mummification and even has a few mummified remains for you to look at. Luxor’s bustling bazaars are the perfect place to end your holidays in Egypt and as they sell all manner of items, from effigies of ancient gods to spices and fragrant incense, they are the perfect place to pick up a souvenir or two of your Nile cruise adventure.
